Kali's Elizabethan Ruff Collar comes off.....

.... and she ends her strike.

Yesterday I talked other vet who told me that sometimes kitties are so mortified and overwhelmed by wearing the ruff collar on top of being stuffed with all kinds of medicines that they just retreat. She also gave me some good advice on ways to tempt her to eat.

Well, we removed the collar, and within the hour she was diving onto a bowl of fresh tuna juices with gusto as well as pounding down a plate of finely minced boiled chicken. She even tasted her new rabbit and peas dinner and lapped up a teaspoon of goat yogurt with live cultures.

I gave her a long snuggle until she purred. then we stuffed her with more medicine and she retreated back under the bed to sulk. I did catch her playing with a mouse though-- a very encouraging sign.

Whew is about all I can say right now.

I'm glad she's doing better, and that the decollar-feed-snuggle-medicate regimen seems like it will work for her. Poor little wiggle, they get so dejected when they are forced fashion tragedies.

It really is amazing-- she *knows* that it makes her look ridiculous and is vain enough to become terribly depressed about it. You can see the wounded dignity in her face.

I adore her. Parvati is the closest thing to having a pet monkey that I know of and is endlessly entertaining, but Kali really is the deep sensitive soul of the two.

I hope you meet them one of these days!

Rabbit and peas is by the way the diet of choice for kitties who have food allergies or other sensitivities. :-)

Oh, I'm so glad to hear she's feeling better. After my cat's initial reaction to the ruff (he jumped around madly trying to get it off, he was like a mountain lion on PCP) he proceeded to completely ignore it. I was actually concerned because he did not let it stop him from making these really high jumps up and down from rather precarious perches and I was afraid he'd break his neck with that thing on (not to mention rip out his stitches) but I couldn't stop him unless i wanted to keep him locked in the bathroom. (which I did not)

Glad to hear it. Hopefully she'll be fine not trying to nibble at body parts she shouldn't be touching right now. Our cat had stitches and the vet was concerned that she would claw at the tender areas, but she was a good kitty and left it all alone.

Her backside is starting to heal. She works on it occasionally, but the vet said a little bit is okay-- what's more important is that she eats while taking this medication.

Poor baby, she has really been through the wringer.
